Defiant Gymkhana bury Obuya in record total

Nairobi Gymkhana A have been the talk of the town in local cricket circles all weekend following twin two match suspensions handed to skipper Kavi Dosaja and Lucas Ndandason by the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Administration (NPCA) disciplinary committee. This followed an on field spat that ensued at Sir Ali Muslim Club last weekend when the two Super League sides faced off in a heated tussle that saw Nairobi Gymkhana victorious by 108 runs over their star studded opponents.

Today, however, Nairobi Gymkhana showed that they were undeterred with the loss of their opening batsman as well as opening bowler, whipping Obuya Cricket Academy who sent them in to bat to the highest Super League season total of 9 – 362. Arun Yadav and stand in skipper Harshvardan Patel top scored at the top with 88 runs alike to help them win their Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Super League match by a massive 222 runs.

With yet another forced opening stand combination, the pair of Tirth Babariya (31) and Arun Yadav was fuitful with a century of runs before the youngster had his defences breached by Ken Mwangi in the 12th over. Yadav went on to score his maiden half century of the season in only his third League appearance for the visitors, hammering ten boundaries and five maximums off the 47 deliveries he faced before Steve Obuya had his uncle David Obuya hanging on to dismiss him at point.

Harshvardan Patel was scintillating with the willow in his third half century of the season, taking the score to 262 runs, when he played one back to David Obuya just twelve runs short of a maiden season ton, tucking in 12 fours and one maximum off his 63 deliveries.

All the other batsmen got starts, Alykhan Lalani perishing to a run out just 6 runs short of a half century. Martin Ndandason was explosive at the end, belting 30 off 14 balls before Saavir Njenga knocked him over. Dominic Wesonga (35) and Veer Dave (25) were the other contributors.

David Obuya dropped the familiar wicket keeping pads to bowl an entire allotment for 2/70 in the absence of hamstrung regular opening bowler, Steve Biko. His younger sibling, Collins Obuya and Saavir Njenga also added two wickets-a-piece to the tally.

David also returned the highest number of runs for the home side, scoring 61 out of the 140 runs obtained, inclusive of five boundaries and two maximums. He also helped construct the only meaningful partnership of the innings, 43 runs for the fifth with his brother Kennedy (18.)

The talented Yash Talati continued to impress with his golden arm, bagging 3/26 for the visitors, including the top scorer whom he had caught by Yadav in the 26th over. Ndandason got rid of both openers (Steve and Collins Obuya) for his 2/25 from just 6 overs while Amish Amin picked 2/52 from his ten overs to help Gymkhana wrap up the hosts with 15.2 overs to spare.
