Obuya’s ton grants OCA maiden win

Obuya Cricket Academy (O.C.A.)made headway in the 2021 Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) 50 – over League by recording their first win of the season over Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SCLPS) ‘A’ by 52 runs over the weekend.

Collins Obuya was brilliant on his own turf at Lenana School announcing his current form with 124 runs as they put up 220 runs in 49.4 overs. There wasn’t much purchase from the other batsmen except Sahil Shah who showed brilliance with the bat for the second time this season, managing 32 runs while playing a supporting role to Obuya in an 88 – run wicket partnership for the third wicket.

The Obuya brothers paired up with their younger brother to stitch up two smaller partnerships in the middle; Kennedy – 54 and David – 12, the two scoring 16 and 8 before being dismissed successively for the fourth and fifth wickets.

None of the other batsmen made double figures.

Darsh Panchani top scored for SCLPS ‘A’ with 62 runs.

Sumit Halai was once again in the wickets for SLPS ‘A’ with 3/49 off 8.4 overs. Opening seamer Rajesh Bhudia and Darsh Panchani combined their 14 overs to share two wickets-a-piece.

Panchani picked the prize wicket of Collins Obuya, trapping him leg before to bag the hosts’ 8th wicket.

In reply, SCLPS ‘A’ met a firing Steve Biko, fresh from the senior men’s team camp, running away with their two top wickets. Biko knocked over Rahul Nathani and Vishal Bhojani for five runs alike, leaving Darsh Panchani to carve out a fighting half century, finishing with 62 runs of 85 balls, inclusive of 9 boundries at the top.

His partnership with Ankit Bhanderi (13) proved the most productive with 54 runs added to the third wicket before losing 3-4 from there on, including 2-0 in the form of Rahul Rabadia and Hiten Vekaria for nought to have them effectively 5 – 72.

From there on, Obuya picked progressive wickets, Sumit Halai run out on 14 by Atharva Tembhekar who later caught Rajesh Bhudia off Julian Mohabir. Mohabir also bagged Harshin Varsani leg before for 17 to open his Super League account with 3/39 from 6.3 overs as Ken Mwangi scalped a further 2/15 off 3.3 overs.
