OUMA, NGOCHE EXTEND GYMKHANA’S LOSING STREAK

James Ngoche of Swamibapa Sports Club celebrates a wicket in the ongoing NPCA 50 – over League

Morris Ouma struck his maiden half-century of the season with James Ngoche once again starring with the ball as Swamibapa Cricket Club ‘A’ extended Nairobi Gymkhana ‘A’s losing streak with a two wicket – win at Nairobi Jaffery Sports Club on Sunday, in the ongoing 2021 Nairobi Provincial Cricket Assocoation (NPCA) 50 – over League.

Chasing 176 to win after Ngoche bagged another four wickets haul of 4 for 33, Ouma top scored with 57 as the hosts sealed their third win with nine overs to spare.

The loss was the third in a row for the Wangari Maathai Road – based side that has left them rooted at the bottom of the 10 – team table.

After losing skipper Rushabh Patel (22) with the board on 37 after 8.3 overs, Ouma started slow but picked up pace as the game wore on, well-supported by youngster Jignesh Hirani who produced 20 timely runs in a 42-run partnership with the former national team skipper.

After Hirani was caught off Aarnav Patel in the 19th over, Ngoche stuck in for six overs to get the board to 102.

Ngoche’s dismissal after scoring eight runs brought in Harendra Kerai who fell immediately for a golden duck to Patel.

Jitendra Hirani gave Ouma the needed support as he put on 35 for the fifth wicket before Ouma was caught by Lucas Oluoch off Yash Talati, 33 short of victory having faced 106 balls that included seven boundaries.

Hirani continued where Ouma left off getting the score to 156 before they lost 3-3 with 10.2 overs to play.

Nehemiah Odhiambo (5) and Indravadan Varsani (11) scored the winning runs in an unbeaten 20 – run stand.

“Despite scoring the half century, I am disappointed with how I got out. I think I lost concentration and gave away my wicket at a time when I would have stuck to the end and scored the winning runs,” Ouma said.

He added,”It was a bit tense to see wickets falling at one end when I was back in the pavilion. I need to work on my concentration so that we don’t give the younger players pressure at a time that they should be enjoying and learning.”

For the third time in a row, Ngoche picked wickets at regular intervals to nullify a promising batting display by the visitors, who were bundled out for 172 with a ball to play in the contest.

Kavi Dosaja’s captain’s knock of 53 and Karan Kaul’s 37 were the cornerstone of Gymkhana’s batting.

Harshvardhan Patel and Dosaja had given the strugglers a good start of 52 runs but as soon as Ouma stumped Patel off Jignesh Hirani, the visitors’ top order lost the plot as they found themselves at 3/ 88.

Ngoche began his journey to 4 for 33 by dismissing Dosaja with the scores on 88 before adding on Wesonga (10) and Oluoch (0) to leave them on 121 for 5.

Hirani added Martin Okoth and Talati on his scalps list to reduce them to 151 for 8 and end up with 3/33.
