The NPCA 50 over League bowled off this past Sunday, 11th July, at various grounds in Nairobi.

Shem Ngoche announced his return to Stray Lions Cricket Club with a blistering ton to steer his former Club to their first win of the season with a mammoth 169 – run win over Ruaraka Sports Club. The immediate Kenya Kongonis export finished on 109 runs off just 119 balls, 9 boundaries and four maximums to his name.

Opening the batting, Praveen Mogasati set the tone with a half century (57 off 84b.) Notable contributions from skipper Nithin Arvind (26 off 22b) and Joseph Onyango (23 off 31) helped the home side to 8/263 after winning the toss.

Purshotam Vekariya (3/59) and Vishil Patel (2/58) were the pick of the bowlers for Ruaraka.

In reply, Joseph Onyango scalped 4/12 off his allotted overs, teaming up with Ngoche (3/13 off 7 overs) to bundle the visitors for only 94 runs. Zimbabwean wicket – keeper batsman Gary Chirumuuta showed he was no slouch behind the stumps, picking a record five stumpings and two catches.

SCLPS took advantage of their visitors’ depleted squad to beat them by three wickets. Gurdeep Singh (78 off 91) balls lacked any meaningful partner as his side slumped to 8/158 inside 36 overs. Hiten Vekariya and Kishore Banderi scalped three a piece with Raj Bhudia (2/12) completing the job.

SCLPS (7/159) chased down the total in 36.3 overs, with contributions from Sumit Halai (54 off 49), Hiten Vekariya (37 off 29) and Niraj Patel (25 off 66.)

In a surprising turn of events, star studded Nairobi Gymkhana folded for 108/10 to a rampaging Ngara Sports Club who set them 202 runs to win off their allotted overs. The mid – lower order held fort for Ngara SC, Nikul Patel remaining unbeaten on 55 off 53 runs as Dhey Patel gritted 49 runs off 107 balls.

Vraj Patel ran through the hosts batting order to pick 6/24 in a poor batting performance that ended with 19 overs to spare, three ducks and another three single digit figures. Dominic Wesonga (26* off 50) barely survived the onslaught, top scoring for Nairobi Gymkhana.

At Eastleigh High School, Kanbis Sports Club squeezed out a three wicket win after wrapping up visiting Sikh Union ‘A’ for 134 runs off 37 overs. Immediate U-19 skipper Sachin Bhudiya top scored with 37 off 28 with supporting scores from Hiren Kabariya unbeaten on 32 off 36 balls and Pushpak Kerai (20 off 26 balls.)

Muhammad Kalyan (46 off 93) looked solid for the visitors before falling short of a half century while Himanshu Dixit starred with both bat and ball, scoring 20 off 35 balls before picking 2/31 in their futile run chase.

Mikunj Pindolia (4/8) was the pick of the bowlers for the  hosts.
